There are certain foods which are very healthy but can be mistakenly overeaten. People stick to these foods to lose weight but excessive consumption of these foods eventually stops the weight from getting reduced.
It is wise to know that every food should be eaten in a balance. Oversized proportions do not help in reducing weight, rather they increase the weight. Let us have a look at the foods that can be easily overeaten and let us have a look at some suggestions too.
1. Ready-to-Eat Cereal
Almost everyone knows that sugar-sweetened cereals are less healthy and more fattening. Those who want to lose some extra pounds always opt for whole grain cereals. But even eating whole grain cereals excessively can be a disaster. Having a huge bowl of granola everyday would not help you lose weight, instead you will gain weight. Eating cereals is healthy but the right proportion should always be kept in mind.
Nutritionists recommend eating one ounce of cereal daily. It is very important to read the label of cereal before eating it. Calculate how many calories are there in one serving and how much you should be taking.
2. Olive Oil
Olive oil is considered to be very healthy and good for the heart too. This is true, yet its overconsumption can result in weight gain as it after all has calories too. One tablespoon of olive oil has about a hundred calories. Nutritionists recommend that your olive oil based salad should not have more than two tablespoons of oil in it. Yet the salads served at restaurants have almost four tablespoons of olive oil in them.
It is better to ask for olive oil separately next time you order a salad at an eatery.
3. Nuts
Nuts are loaded with healthy fats and nutrients. It is good to eat them daily. They contain iron and omega-3 fatty acids too. Nuts also keep our tummy full. However, there is a good chance of overeating them and thus providing unnecessary calories to your body. Chances of overeating nuts is when you are having them with a friend at a bar or eating them from a big jar at home.
Nutritionists recommend eating one ounce of nuts daily. This means a handful of nuts, almost the size of a golf ball. Nuts should always be eaten in small servings and should be placed in small jars or packs.
4. Hummus
Hummus is a dip made from chick peas. It has proteins and omega-3 fatty acids which tend to be very healthy. Fresh vegetables added to hummus make a delicious snack. However, you can overeat hummus too without even realizing. Chances of overeating hummus are when you are eating it out of a big tin or at a cocktail party with your friends. This will give you unwanted calories.
It is suggested to eat two tablespoons of hummus. You can add carrots, celery and olives to it to make it a full snack. This will give you lots of nutrients as well.
5. Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice
It is recommended by nutritionists to eat an orange instead of having fresh orange juice. Eating it will give you fiber and you will consume less calories as well. Orange juice is made of more than one orange thus it has more calories.
Four to six ounces of orange juice should be taken, this makes half a glass. If you are buying a large glass, it is better to share it with someone or save half of it for the next day.
Proper care should be taken of your food proportions. Even the healthiest of foods can make you gain weight if consumed in greater proportion. You should observe how much you are eating. Overeating any food will result in giving you extra calories.
Read food labels before eating a specific item. Use small plates and bowls for eating. Remember you have to eat healthy but you don’t have to provide unwanted calories to your body.
